


Rural Society -
CURAMUNDI wants to introduce the Rural Society,
a charity project in Nepal.
Rural Society -
Nepal is one of the 8 poorest countries in the world. Half its population lives below the absolute poverty line.
Rural Society is a local charity organization (officially registered under 1209 -
It worked out an education programme that consists of:
q the training of teachers in the capital Kathmandu to make them better teachers in the village of Bolde Phediche
q scholarships to the best students of Bolde Phediche to go and receive higher education in Kathmandu
q payment of school costs for children of the poor families
q financial support to the poor families so that the children do not have to work
to sustain their families
(information will be given to parents to improve agricultural
methods. This would reduce the need to employ children to help them)
q promotion of school attendance by girls. The education for girls is considered by many as not important. Rural Society tries to convince families it is
q upkeep of school infrastructure.
The Rural Society programme is headed by Lapsang Lama, a businessman from Kathmandu who destines 10% of the company profits to charity programmes.
The annual budget needed for the aid programme amounts to about EUR 7,600.
Sponsoring a child amounts to EUR 120 per year (school books, notebooks, school dress and annual fee).
